A church for the whole family.
Here are South Henderson we believe that together we can do more!
To positively affect the lives of people in this region of North Carolina with the gospel of Jesus Christ, therefore turning them to Jesus Christ and away from drugs, alcohol, and other destructive lifestyles one person at a time.
To provide consistent evangelism/outreach, sound Biblical preaching/ teaching, relevant youth/children, effective small group ministry, vibrant musical ministry, competent and courageous leadership and special event ministry.
1923 – Rev. N.N. Perkins conducted a five-month tent revival that was held in three different locations in Henderson: Southerland Street, Johnson Street, and North Henderson. As a result of this revival, the South Henderson Pentecostal Holiness Church was organized in June with approximately twenty-two members.
The first meeting place was the “old place” in the “cotton patch” on what is now Epsom Road. Rooms that had been added onto a store building owned by W.H. Johnson were used next. The first church building was built on Gay Street under the leadership of Rev. B. Shields, the first pastor. The building on Carolina Avenue was built in 1946 during the pastorate of Rev. Paul Stanley with the first service being held October 13, 1946. Rev. Henry Reese was the pastor when the first phase of the present church was built in 1980 on US#1 Bypass. The first service was held September 21, 1980. The second phase was started in late 1990, and the first service was conducted February 17, 1991, with Rev. Frank Sossamon as pastor.
The third phase, our Family Life Center was built in 1999 under the leadership of Rev. Frank Sossamon. We trust that you will find this information helpful. However, if you have any questions or would like more detailed information regarding any area of our church, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
We look forward to worshipping, serving, and growing with you as we strive to do His will.
