Statement of Faith

We believe there is only one God, and that He exists as three persons; the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Man is the special creation of God, made in His image (Genesis 1:26). Man was created without sin, but in an act of disobedience resulting from man’s free choice, sin entered the human race and separated mankind from the creator (Genesis 3). Because of this act of disobedience towards God, man inherits a sinful nature at conception, and an environment inclined toward sin (Psalm 51:5). However, God loved us despite our sin, and chose to provide atonement through His Son, Jesus Christ (John 3:16). Jesus came to earth as a child, born of the virgin, Mary (Matthew 1:18-25). As a man, He paid the penalty for our sin by dying on the cross (John 19). On the third day He rose again (John 20). Because of this incredible act of love, we believe that all who put their faith and trust in Jesus Christ will receive the free gift of salvation from God (Romans 6:23).

Great Beginnings Christian Childcare Center

Philosophy, Purpose and Goals

The Great Beginnings Christian Child Care Center is a program designed to care for and nurture the development of infants to 5 years old and school-age children. We believe that generating a positive atmosphere heightens the child’s morale, creativity, and sense of security. We at Great Beginnings are dedicated to lifting up our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and to pray with the children in our care. Our teachers pay close attention to the age appropriateness of the surroundings and other aspects of classroom to coordinate with each child’s developmental ability. Our program will include time of teacher-generated curriculum as well as times when the children can choose their learning activity. Each of these will enhance and stimulate the learning process.

The goals of our program and staff include:

Nurturing the development of Christian values and morals through the use of Bible stories, Christian value stories, memory verses, and songs

Acting as a positive role model

Providing a stimulating and challenging classroom environment

Creating an exciting atmosphere of learning

Maintain order and proper discipline to ensure the health and safety of each child

To work with the parents in order to share ideas and material that will create opportunities for children to progress in development

Great Beginnings Christian Child Care Center is a ministry of South Henderson Pentecostal Holiness Church. We are dedicated to giving children a well-balanced spiritual, physical, social, intellectual, and emotional foundation to provide for growth. We seek to provide learning experiences that will help each child develop positive self-concept, social values, relationships, and awareness of God’s love for them.

Great Beginnings opened in 1999 with approximately 30 children. We are now operating with 50 daycare children and 20 school-agers.

Classroom Education

Infants – Age span is 6 weeks to 12 months old. Days are filled with loving, nurturing, and meeting the needs of the babies. Babies are provided with stimulus such as rocking, pat-a-cake, peek-a-boo, singing, etc.

Toddlers – Age span is 12 months to 24 months old. Our ones are busy with organized and free activity time. Teachers help the little one to drink from a cup and eat with a spoon. They have a special Bible time as well as singing. Working on vocabulary, motor skills, art, songs, finger-plays, and lots of love gives our toddlers a full program.

Two’s – Age span is 2 years to 3 years old. The Tender Two’s have a curriculum that is fitted to their appropriate level. Many hands on activities, crafts, social skills, love, attention and positive reinforcement give our twos a unique learning experience. A few numbers may be introduced as well as singing the alphabet, Bible time, songs and finger plays are a big part of the day.

Three’s – Age span is 3 years to 4 years old. The Thrilling Threes offer a more structured program; however, it is a very relaxed atmosphere. Children will be introduced to the alphabet, numbers, and lots of social skills, free play, and arts and crafts. The children have a Bible time and songs to make a joyful classroom. Lots of love goes into training our threes to enjoy a short, structured time of preschool.

Four’s – Age span is 4 years to 5 years old. The Fantastic Fours offers a more structured program than the threes. More emphasis is put on letters, sounds, number, etc. Using the Abeka, Bible based curriculum, our 2 preschool classes prepare for kindergarten. Unit studies, crafts, music, Bible time and field trips give us a well-balanced program. As in the other area, each child progresses at his/her own developmental level. Patience and love helps our fours to be proud of their accomplishments. We offer a full day and half day program.

After-School – Structured program for school-age children kindergarten to fifth grades each afternoon, teacher workdays, and on school holidays. We offer transportation from school. There is time designated for homework, a nutritious snack, and Bible study. There is plenty of opportunity for physical activity in our full-sized gym and our fenced-in outdoor play area.

Summer Camp Program – This program is to provide school-aged childcare for student’s kindergarten to fifth grade during the summer. The program offers cost-effective, safe, supervised enrichment and recreational activities to the appropriate age groups in a fun, Christian environment.
